Obituary for Barney Greene Jr.

J. Barney Greene, Jr., age 76, of Canton GA passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Emory University Hospital. Barney was born February 13, 1942, in Rome, GA.

Barney lived life to the fullest. He was involved in car shows with his 1934 Ford, enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, and was a softball enthusiast. He was instrumental alongside Lowell Lawson in building the Cherokee Senior Softball Association (CSSA) organized in 1995 from 2 teams to over 35. He served on the Board as Commissioner, Vice Commissioner, League Director, and Team Manager.

He was Manager of the 70+ year old traveling softball Team “Time Bandits.” He was a true patriot and served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Georgia Air National Guard at Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, GA. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45. He also worked several years at Lockheed GA. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Pop Pop. He loved the Lord and was a true Christian.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Reverend Ken Oates officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia
National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday April 23, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday April 24, 2018
from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 10:00 AM up until the service hour at
1:00 PM.

Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his Parents, Barney Sr. and Lucy Greene.

Survivors include:
Wife- Patricia Hillhouse Greene, Canton GA
Son – David “Alan” Neeley, Jr.
Son & Daughter-in- law – Todd (Jennifer) Greene
Daughter & Son-in- law –Sheri Neeley (Troy) Shatus
Daugher & Son-in- law – Debbie (Sean) Merritt
Brother & Sister-in- law – Ron (Margaret) Greene
Sister- Brenda Greene
Grandchildren – Megan Neeley, Ethan Neeley, Allison Shatus ,and Madison Greene.
Several Nieces, Nephews, and cousins also survive.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or the
Wounded Warrior Project.
