Obituary for Doris S. Finley (Evans)

Doris (Evans) Finley, age 86, of Canton, Ga. was called to her Heavenly Home on Monday, January 1, 2018. Born December 7, 1931 to Horace James Evans and Ora Bell Cantrell Evans, she was the first born of three children. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harrison Finley and brother, Kennie James Evans.

In 1957, Doris' banking career began when a customer, a branch manager of First National Bank of Atlanta, recruited her away from Schneider's Jewelry store. After several First National Bank name changes and mergers, she retired from Wells Fargo
35 years later.

In 1973, she and her husband relocated to Decatur to ease her commute to work. They never met a stranger and developed numerous longstanding friendships through their church, Briarcliff Baptist Church, and their memberships in the Atlanta-Northlake Elks Lodge.

Doris returned to her beloved hometown of Canton in 2004. Her passions were travel and history. She was very active in the Cherokee County Historical Society, and kept bags packed for the next cruise, trip abroad, or road trip. She especially loved to travel with the Senior Group at her church, Hopewell Baptist at Ridge Road, Canton. She sparkled with boundless energy, and had a caring, generous, welcoming persona.

She is survived by her only child, daughter, Deborah (Smith) Grun and son-in-law Bob Grun; Grand puppies, Yodie Coyote and Moxie Foxy; Sister, Barbara Lawrence, Atlanta; sister-in-law Faye Evans, Canton; Nieces, Kim Adams, Texas; Mandy Baluch, Woodstock; Nephews, Greg and Rodney Lawrence, Atlanta.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2018, from the chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Miller and Rev. Norman Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at the South Canton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Doris to the
Cherokee County Historical Society or Hopewell Baptist Church in Canton.
